The Silk Scarf Project was started to help struggling communities in Northern India. They are able to profit on every level of production as they grow the silk worms, spin, dye and weave the yarn into beautifully handcrafted scarves. Women are empowered because they play a central role in production and business management; the land is reforested to provide enough trees for the worms to live in and the artisans use dyes derived from the vegetables in their gardens. Establishing sustainable businesses like this is key to the long-term success of these communities.
